A redistricting map that may affect children at five elementary schools is to be presented to the Forsyth County School Board in October, according to a redistricting timeline approved by the board.
The effort seeks "to relieve overcrowding at existing schools and to populate Poole's Mill Elementary School, which will open in August, 2020, with grades K-5," the district said. "Potentially impacted (schools) include, but are not limited to, Sawnee, Matt, Kelly Mill, Silver City and Coal Mountain elementary schools."
According to the timeline, staff will present a draft map to the Forsyth Board of Education at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8; receive feedback online Oct. 9-23; and conduct a public forum at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the North Forsyth High School cafe. The school board will discuss the matter Nov. 12 and vote on the final map Nov. 19.
Middle and high school attendance lines will not be changing in the 2020-21 school year, the district said. Information: https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/redistricting
Rising fifth grade students and siblings affected by the redistricting, whose families complete an out of district attendance form, will be permitted to stay at their current schools for one year. They must provide their own transportation. To view Forsyth's policy on school attendance areas: https://bit.ly/2nAChMd
