The Forsyth County School Board has given tentative approval to a fiscal year 2019 budget that calls for a step increase for all eligible district employees and a tentative 1 percent cost-of-living adjustment, based on the preliminary tax digest.

According to a budget presentation by Rick Gunn, chief financial officer, the district’s total expenditures would be $443.7 million in the new fiscal year, an increase of $38.4 million over 2018. State and local revenues would amount to $443.1 million. The $669,630 difference will be covered by fund balances.

The district’s millage rate would be 17.300 for maintenance and operations and 2.418 for bonds, unchanged since 2015.

About $3.7 million will go toward adding two new schools – Denmark High School and the Alliance Academy for Innovation. Forsyth’s student population is projected to grow by 3.5 percent or 1,737 students to 49,540. Enrollment has risen by 15,294 students or 46.9 percent since 2010.
