The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and the nonprofit Lake Lanier Association have extended their partnership on the association’s lake protection efforts for another year.

Commissioners agreed to fund the Lanier group $20,000. Director Joanna Cloud said the majority of the money will likely be used for installation of solar light markers. The solar-powered lights are installed on top of Corps of Engineers hazard markers on the lake to warn nighttime boaters about hazardous spots.

Cloud said the group has seen 123 such lights installed to date, and they hope to see 100 more put in by the end of 2015.

Cloud said the money may also go for other lake protection and pollution-fighting efforts, such as the association’s annual trash gathering shore sweep.
