Forsyth County has a new ambulance provider, after the company that had provided emergency protection since 2008 abruptly bailed out.

County spokeswoman Jodi Gardner said the county was put on notice by Advanced Ambulance earlier this week that it intended to cease operations Jan. 14. and wished to assign the contract to Central Emergency Medical Services LLC.

Gardner said that since that possibility was provided for in the existing Advanced contract, county commissioners agreed to the change at a special called meeting on Wednesday.

Officials said that there continue to be seven staffed ambulances providing emergency medical services to county residents.
