An open house is set for 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Otwell Middle School, 605 Tribble Gap Road, Cumming to reveal the Georgia Department of Transportation’s plan to widen a 24-mile segment of Ga. 20 between Canton and Cumming.

GDOT officials approved the plan in December 2015, rejecting several other proposed alternatives including a freeway. The project will be broken up into six segments and will be funded under legislation passed last year to raise the state’s gas tax to fund various transportation projects.

The state has been looking at ways to improve the corridor since 2012, leading to a series of earlier public meetings and design work which began early last year.

GDOT says a “concept alternative” for expanding the overburdened state road will be presented.
