Forsyth County officials said an expansion of the state’s busiest library branch remains on track to open in the spring.

Library system Director Anna Lyle said the expansion portion should be readied by fall and the entire facility will close for about four weeks. Library employees will then shift the collection from the 20,000-square-foot existing library into the 18,000-foot extension so that a renovation of the older portion built in 2000 can be done.

The finished facility will include a community meeting room half again as large as the current one, a half-dozen new study rooms, a dedicated teen room, a larger bookstore and a new entrance. The groundbreaking on the nearly $3 million project was November.
