The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is moving ahead with a possible bike-sharing program along the Big Creek Greenway.

At their Jan. 10 work session, commissioners heard a presentation from a county resident and greenway biker who sketched out a plan under which an outside firm would operate a small inaugural program at the Fowler Park Recreation Center. Riders would rent and return bikes using a downloaded app and code. He said the program could later be expanded to other locations within the county and outside.

The proposal was touted as a lifestyle amenity and potential traffic-reducer that could be in place by the early summer of 2017. Commissions voted to send the idea to the county procurement department for preparation of bid proposals.
