A new 109-acre park is on the way for Northeast Forsyth County.

Ground was broken Friday for Lanierland Park off of Jot Em Down Road. When finished, the facility will include four rectangular synthetic-turf fields, two playgrounds, a picnic pavilion, restrooms and a concession stand. Construction is being funded by a voter-approved 2008 parks bond issue and by impact fees.

The park was formerly the site of the Lanierland Music Park, which closed in 2006. The county purchased the site in 2009.
