The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a proposed master plan for the future Wildcat Creek Park that will be submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for review and approval.

The plan for the 20-acre peninsula jutting into Lake Lanier near Ga. 53 and Crystal Cove Trail envisions a nature and education center, an adjacent playground and restrooms, walking trails, pavilions and a fishing pier. Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills said during community meetings on the proposal there was sharp disagreement over a possible boat ramp at the site. Officials noted that there was another boat ramp relatively close by.

Parks Director Jim Pryor said that the years-long process to establish the park will include approval by the Corps of the master plan and an environmental assessment followed by construction. Mills said some $640,000 has been set aside for the park so far. The eventual cost has been projected at $2.9 million.
