Forsyth County is buying two adjacent land parcels totaling more than 80 acres in the southwest part of the county for a possible future park.

The tracts are known as the “Denmark properties” because of their proximity to the new Denmark High School, to open in August at 645 Mullinax Road.

The Forsyth Board of Commissioners approved spending $5.8 million for 56.93 acres owned by Kay W. Veal at 500 Windy Hill Drive; and $2.37 million for 23.35 acres owned by Jay Land and Mullinax Road LLC at 650 Mullinax. The sales are to close by Aug. 21.

The county has no plans for the properties currently but they likely will be part of discussions regarding future Forsyth Parks & Recreation facilities, Deputy County Manager Tim Merritt said.
