Former Snellville Mayor Brett Harrell is hoping to step back into the political arena.

Harrell, 48, announced recently at a Gwinnett County GOP breakfast that is he is running for the state House seat being vacated by Rep. Melvin Everson (R-Snellville). Everson next year will pursue the labor commissioner post.

Harrell said he believes the major issues are taxation, budgets, transportation, economic development and job creation.

Although the primary is still a year away, Harrell said there's much to be done. "I need to speak to the community and make sure I understand their concerns."
