A former city of Atlanta public defender has been disbarred from practicing law for deceitful and unprofessional conduct, the Georgia Supreme Court said.

In a recent opinion, the court noted that Lisa M. Cummings falsified $2,754 worth of invoices when she worked for the defender’s office two years ago. After being terminated from that job, Cummings took money from a client to file a lawsuit on the client’s behalf but never did file the suit and failed to return the client’s documents and unearned legal fee, the court said.
