The Henry County Board of Commissioners honored former commissioner Reid Bowman at its Oct. 2 regular meeting by ordering that Fire Station 16 in the Kelleytown community be dedicated to his memory.

Bowman died June 6, four weeks before his 71st birthday. He lived in Henry County 39 years and was elected to two terms at District IV commissioner in 2006 and 2010. County officials credited him with implementing a number of quality-of-life and public safety initiatives, including the newest fire station which recently became operational.

County officials are working now to schedule a date for the scheduling ceremony.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
