Bill Byrne, a former Cobb County Commission chairman, wants his old job back, and intends to run for the seat next year.

Byrne, chairman from 1992 to 2002, said current chairman, Tim Lee is in over his head, and has made 10 major mistakes in the past six months, including allowing the county’s budget deficit to balloon to $31 million and letting the county manager’s contract negotiations occur publicly last year.

Byrne resigned from the commission in 2002 to run for governor but lost in the primary.
