A book drive is under way for National Book Month in Atlanta to collect new and used books to be donated to children, shelters and libraries or to be recycled.

The effort, which runs through Oct. 31, involves City Council Member Michael Julian Bond, the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials, the Atlanta Public Schools, the Mall West End, and the city departments of Planning, Community Development, Watershed Management and Corrections.

Drop-off bins will be located at churches, all public schools, the Mall West End, and facilities of the four city departments.

“I’m asking Atlantans to go through their bookshelves and bring us all the books they are not using,” Bond said. “I also hope that citizens will embrace National Book Month by reading a book.”
