A seafood and barbecue restaurant in DeKalb County failed a routine health inspection Monday after inspectors found flies and “excessive grease buildup” in the kitchen.

This Is It! BBQ and Seafood — located at 2853 Panola Road, Lithonia — received a 66/U on its routine health inspection Monday. It had scored an 84/B on its last inspection in March.

The health inspector noted 11 total code violations Monday, including the flies found in the kitchen.

The report mentions grease buildup behind equipment and on the floors, and says there was “excessive food debris” on several shelves and containers.

A few violations occurred during the previous inspection and were repeated in the most recent one. Excessive debris was found on a cutting board and needed to be replaced, and the inspector noted several food items were improperly cooled and not stored correctly.

David Gary is the marketing and media relations director for This Is It! BBQ and Seafood.

“Many of the issues stemmed from employees not following standard operating procedures," Gary said. "We’ve already implemented a new training procedure for all the employees that were involved."

He also added that the restaurant's vendors have been contacted to make necessary repairs and provide pest control.

A follow-up inspection is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2016.

"We're confident that the score is going to go back to, or possibly even higher than, what it was before," Gary said.

This Is It! BBQ and Seafood has nine other locations in Georgia.
