Five candidates have qualified for the March 17 special election for mayor of Avondale Estates.
Paul Brown and John Pomberg qualified earlier in the week, while Jonathan Elmore, Jim Hutchens and Todd Pullen qualified Friday.
City Manager Clai Brown, born and raised in Avondale (his father was longtime city manager) says this is the most mayoral candidates in a single election he can remember.
The winner will complete the unexpired term of Ed Rieker who resigned in October—Mayor Pro Tem Terry Giager has served as acting mayor during the interim. The term, however, lasts only until Dec. 31, meaning another election is required Nov. 3.
