Gwinnett County firefighters found the body of a man just North of the Old Jones bridge in the Chattahoochee River Thursday around 1:30 p.m.

The man, identified as 69-year-old Thomas Luckett of Dunwoody, went missing Thursday morning while fishing on a boat with a friend, authorities said. He was operating a 12-foot Jon Boat when he fell out.

The body was removed from the water and the scene was turned over to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, according to the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

The department’s Swift Water Rescue Team searched the river near Jones Bridge Park, according to Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge.
