All weekend, drivers can expect to deal with the first phase of road work to take down the Georgia 400 tolls.
Crews began on the northbound side, closing two lanes. Channel 2 Action News was there Friday night as crews started the process of restriping on Georgia 400.
It is part of phase one of a four-phase project that will last a year and end with the demolition of the toll booths. Phase one will also include the removal or modification of nearly 70 signs leading up to the tolls.
Drivers still have to pay the toll for a few more weeks. The Georgia Department of Transportation said traffic should increase by 11,000 cars once the toll ends. At least three lanes will stay open in each direction.
