A two-alarm fire that damaged several units of a DeKalb County apartment complex early Tuesday might have been caused by a Molotov cocktail, Channel 2 Action News reported.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which broke out around 1 a.m. at the Kensington Manor complex on Mountain Drive.

Channel 2 reported at noon Tuesday that investigators have a strong lead on what started the fire, and may be close to making an arrest for arson. The station reported that residents told authorities that a Molotov cocktail was thrown into an apartment after a fight between two women.

The fire, which was brought under control in about 20 minutes, destroyed or badly damaged 16 apartments.

Charlene Drake said she, her husband and their 2-year-old daughter were asleep when the “neighbor across from us came banging on the door saying the building is on fire.”

Drake said her family’s apartment sustained smoke damage but was spared from the flames. The American Red Cross was assisting them with temporary housing, she said.

“Everybody’s okay, we’re safe,” Drake told the AJC. “I just feel bad for the ones that did lose everything.”
