In response to a recent household incident, the Peachtree City Fire Department is reminding residents to use caution when charging electric golf carts. Hydrogen gas produced during the charging process can build up and either set off carbon monoxide detectors or ignite if the vehicle is kept in an unventilated area or left too close to a heating or air conditioning unit. The department recommends keeping ignition sources away from batteries, not charging carts when no one is home, and disconnecting the charger as soon as the batteries are recharged.
