An employee at the Food Mart on Arcado Road called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. A customer had seen smoke and flames coming from the building’s attic.

Customers and the clerk were outside by the time a fire crew arrived. Firefighters entered the building immediately and worked to extinguish the flames, which were concentrated in the attic. The upper portion of the building sustained “extensive damage,” according to a department release.

The gas pumps outside the building were not damaged and were never threatened by the fire, the department said. Fire investigators believe the fire’s cause was “electrical in nature.” No injuries were reported.
