Though rumored for months, Nisar Momin recently signed a lease with Centro Development last week, meaning Decatur’s popular Dairy Queen will return in the mixed-use Trinity Triangle development.

The Momin family had a run a DQ on the Howard Avenue/Trinity Place site for roughly 30 years before closing in February 2014.

Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne said she didn’t know financial details except that Centro “agreed to a rental rate considerably below market rate to make it happen.”

DQ begins its build out next January or February, and probably won’t open until late spring, 2016. Centro principal owner Kent Collins said there will be no drive-thru, a feature disappearing from contemporary urban developments because of pollution and space limitations.
