An Athens man is facing federal charges in connection with bomb threat hoaxes authorities say he made.
Preston Alexander McWaters, 25, was arrested Tuesday in Athens, Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesman Jim Marshall said.
The FBI said the threats were made against schools, a business and an airport in Palm Beach County, Florida.
The multi-agency investigation, involving the FBI; Palm Beach School Police Department; Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office; West Palm Beach Police Department; and the Jupiter Police Department, is ongoing, Marshall said in a statement.
“This arrest is a wake-up call to anyone who pulls these pranks and thinks they won’t be caught,” Palm Beach County school superintendent Robert Avossa said in a statement. “School District Police is investigating every one of these cases, and we will find the people responsible and ensure they are punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
McWaters is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court in Macon.
