Fayette County authorities have identified the motorist killed early Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near Fayetteville.

Sheriff's Major Bryan Woodie said Michael S. Summers, 20, of Fayetteville, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck southbound on Inman Road just after 3 a.m. Saturday when the truck ran off the right side of the road.

Summers attempted to steer the truck back onto the roadway but over-corrected, Woodie said.

The truck then skidded across Inman Road, ran off the northbound side of the road and overturned.

Summers, who was alone in the truck, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He died at the scene.

Woodie said that excessive speed "was a significant factor" in the crash.
