A 5 percent rate increase for water and sewer services in Fayetteville will take effect August 1.

The City Council voted unanimously on July 18 to amend Section 86-62 of its Water and Sewer Ordinance to automatically raise rates for residential, senior and commercial customers 5 percent a year through July 31, 2023. Of that, 2.4 percent of the additional revenue will be used to comply with debt service requirements on the 2010 and 2013 Series Water and Sewer Revenue Bonds that end in 2033; the other 2.6 percent will help cover the New Revenue Bonds requirements for the city’s new wastewater treatment plant.

Based on a minimum average monthly usage of 2,000 gallons, the minimum water and sewer rate will increase $1.77 for non-senior residents, $1.51 for seniors and $3.17 for commercial customers.

The complete new rate chart is at www.fayetteville-ga.gov under the July 18 council meeting agenda packet.
