After several months of conducting its biweekly meetings remotely, the Fayetteville City Council will reconvene in person at its City Hall chamber starting July 2. No formal vote was needed, but the council discussed and unanimously endorsed the matter at its June 4 meeting in order to give City Manager Ray Gibson official direction.
Although other Fayette County governments have already resumed in-person meetings, Mayor Ed Johnson said he preferred waiting until July since that will be closer to the end of the state’s public health emergency period, which is set to expire July 12. Fayetteville’s meetings will be conducted with social distancing provisions for council members and public attendees.
The city’s first FY2021 budget meeting, originally scheduled for June 18, will also be held on July 2.
