The Fayette County Board of Education is calculating whether to keep high school math courses that take an integrated approach to instruction or to return to more traditiona

l methods. A State Board of Education decision last month lets individual school districts decide to use either or both. School administrators have been meeting with and surveying teachers to get their opinions, with early responses indicating greater support for the discrete approach. Superintendent Jody Barrow noted at the March 2 work session that the new math standards are more rigorous regardless of the instructional sequencing.

A vote is expected March 16.
