Fayette County’s 11th graders scored in the top 9 percent in the state on this year’s Georgia High School Writing Test. The collective 98.5 pass rate placed Fayette 17th out of 187 school systems of similar size. Among the individual schools, McIntosh’s scores increased 1.5 percent over last year and Whitewater’s remained unchanged. Starr’s Mill, Fayette County and Sandy Creek’s pass rate decreased slightly, but all three schools increased the number of students who met or exceeded standards. The GHSWT will be replaced next year by the Georgia Milestones Assessment System.
