Fayette County Schools will hold a virtual graduation for seniors on May 22 and in-person ceremonies on Aug. 1, the district has announced.

The May 1 ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature videotaped student speeches, senior awards and the reading of each graduate’s name while photographs are scrolled.

Students will walk the stage and receive their diplomas at 9 a.m. Aug. 1 at each of the school district’s stadium facilities.

Fayette, like other school systems, has struggled with providing seniors graduation ceremonies because of the coronavirus. The district said the decision to hold separate virtual and in-person ceremonies was made with input from graduating seniors as well as parents.

The school system said it will have more specifics on the ceremonies in the weeks to come.
