Fayette County’s 14 elementary schools will get $500,000 worth of playground equipment upgrades and related repairs, following unanimous Board of Education approval Monday night.

ESPLOST II funds will be used to make facilities and conditions safer and more equitable among all the schools. Site visits to each location identified specific needs; $50,000 will be spent on mulch alone. The cost per school is approximately $35,000, and the work will be completed over the summer.

The playgrounds are used by students and neighborhood residents.
