Fayette County School Superintendent Jody Barrow said Monday that he is “cautiously optimistic” about the system’s ability to increase full-time staff salaries by one percent after the first of the year. Barrow cited the recent hiring of additional parapros as part of the county’s efforts to boost both staffing and compensation levels cut during the recession.

The pay raise would cost Fayette $750,000 to 860,000 if implemented mid-year.

The issue will be discussed further at the Dec. 15 board of education meeting, after the November property tax revenue is received.
