After reviewing cost projections presented by its director of technology services, the Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 Monday to approve the expansion of all schools’ wireless networks. Part of the $2.4 million cost will be offset by anticipated grant funding.

Sharon Lunceford told the board that the upgrade is necessary to provide greater Internet access at higher speeds for what is now approximately 10,000 tablets, notebook computers and other devices in use at any given time during the school day. The upgrades are expected to be completed by June 2016 and last five to seven years.
