With several members citing their own daughters’ wardrobe woes, the Fayette County Board of Education addressed the issue of dress code rules Monday night.

The current requirement states that skirts, dresses or shorts must fall below fingertip length, which board member Brian Anderson said “unfairly targets female students” and results in excessive disciplinary actions and numerous parental complaints. Anderson advocated dropping the rule and was the dissenting vote in a 4-1 approval of the Student Code of Conduct manual for the upcoming year. However, the board agreed to revisit the “fingertip rule” soon and consider amending it based on further input from parents and administrators.
