After voting in February against funding to relocate utility lines for the construction of two roundabouts, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners reversed course on March 8 and voted 4-1 to work with the Georgia Department of Transportation on the project. The state is proceeding with construction on Hwy. 92 at Seay Road and Antioch Road regardless, but the county must pay approximately $780,000 to move seven water lines out of the way. The cost could have been greater if the county had not entered into a memorandum of understanding with the state, and may actually be lower depending on the contract bid. The county will also pay for new lighting at the sites.
