To improve safety and security at its public parks, Fayette County has begun installing video cameras at some locations. County Manager Steve Rapson said the Kiwanis, Brooks and Kenwood parks will get the motion-detection devices first, with McCurry Park slated for later.

Rapson said the camera placement is similar to what a parked patrol car would see, and that personal privacy and civil liberties would be protected. Images will only be retained by law enforcement “if vandalism or other crimes have occurred.” Signs will be posted at parks where cameras are in use.
