The Fayette County Board of Education announced this week that the search for a new superintendent is down to three finalists.

They are: Jeffery Bearden, a superintendent from MSAD 35 in City Eliot, Maine; Roy “Cole” Pugh, superintendent of Eagle Mountain – Saginaw ISD in Ft. Worth, Texas; and Lyn Wenzel, a director with the Georgia Department of Education. Wenzel is Fayette's former assistant superintendent of curriculum.

Former superintendent John DeCotis retired on June 30. He served the school district for more than 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal before ultimately taking the top post.
