Fayette County has established the qualifying fees for anyone wishing to run for public office in 2018. The Board of Commissioners ratified the rates at its Jan. 11 meeting.

Candidates for the Board of Education races in districts 2 and 4 must pay $306; those running for the Board of Commissioners in districts 3 and 4 must pay $625.01; and candidates for State Court judge will be charged $3,409.16. The fees are calculated according to state law, based on 3 percent of the salary for each position.

Anyone who cannot pay the fee must file an affidavit to invoke the indigent clause of the state code.
