After a series of public hearings, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted 4-0-1 on Aug. 24 to set the millage rates for 2017.

The General Fund’s maintenance and operations rate will be 4.509 mills, down from 4.917 last year and representing a full rollback. The rate for fire services will remain at 3.070 mills, EMS at 0.456 and E-911 at 0.210. Chief Financial Officer Mary Parrott noted that the phasing out of ad valorem car taxes had reduced revenue for the county in recent years, but a 9.8 percent increase in the value of existing property this year, plus new growth, will result in the highest taxable digest in Fayette since 2009.
