The Fayette County Board of Education is re-examining the role and funding of high school parking lot attendants.

The system spends about $120,000 per year for all of the attendants, who monitor students coming and going.

Board member Diane Basham suggested at the March 7 work session that some changes might be warranted. The board is reviewing whether the parking fees paid by students are equitably distributed, and whether the role of the attendants has changed now that more students take courses off campus.

Superintendent Jody Barrow said he believes the attendants are still needed so that teachers and staff don’t have to spend time monitoring student traffic.
