A plan to kill about 60 deer in the Whitewater Creek golf course community in Fayette County is facing strong opposition from residents who say they did not consent to the measure. The Whitewater Creek homeowners association decided last month to pay approximately $5,000 to have federal Wildlife Services officers bait the deer and shoot them.

Some residents had complained about deer eating landscaping or posing traffic risks, but others say the deer are not problematic and have launched an online campaign to urge the HOA to use nonlethal measures instead.
