Following a discussion at its Jan. 12 meeting, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners has sent a letter to Fairburn Mayor Mario Avery and the Fairburn City Council regarding commercial development along Ga. Hwy. 74.

A 2014 intergovernmental agreement established a Gateway Coalition aimed at maintaining the integrity of the highway from Interstate 85 south through Tyrone to Peachtree City, including minimizing traffic lights and avoiding certain kinds of retail. But the BOC is concerned about Fayette County funding the bulk of a development study if Fairburn is not committed to the plan.

The letter asks whether Fairburn officials “desire to continue the process” regarding future zoning and development.
