Fayette County has approved the addition of another inspector to its building safety department.

The Board of Commissioners on Dec. 12 approved a staff request to change an unfilled technician position in the environmental management department to a building inspection position, which EMD Director Bryan Keller said will improve the county’s ability to monitor erosion and sediment control at residential building sites and therefore help prevent violations. Sites must be inspected three times during construction as well as when complaints are received. The staffing change will require adding $2,053 to the budget because of the higher pay grade of the inspection position.

The board also approved using $22,160 from the county’s vehicle replacement fund to buy a new Ford F-150 truck for the inspector’s use.
