A Fayette County school program is collecting games, sports equipment and other items to give to students with extra needs during the COVID-19 shutdown.

The Children at Risk in Education program focuses on students who need help all year with stress, grades, finances, substance abuse and relationship difficulties. CARE leaders have already distributed new board games, art supplies, books and sports equipment at sites where the school system is providing free meals during the spring break holiday. CARE Coordinator Karen Spangler says the donations are meant to provide interactive resources for academic skills as well as stress relief. Some of the initial materials were funded by a grant from Keller Williams Realty in Peachtree City, but the program is accepting more donations of new items from the public for ongoing distribution.
