After reviewing five options for renovating or replacing J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City, the Fayette County Board of Education is leaning more toward building a new middle school at a new location.

At Monday’s meeting, a majority of board members and Superintendent Joseph Barrow, Jr. said they think Option Two makes the most sense. That plan would cost approximately $47 million and include building a new middle school as well as renovating and reopening Tyrone Elementary, which closed in 2014.

The current Booth building, which is valued at about $12 million, could be repurposed or sold. The board is weighing the cost and timing of construction plus the impact of residential growth in the West Village.

The second most popular plan is Option One, which would renovate the Booth and Tyrone buildings for about $37 million. The board will discuss detailed versions of both options on March 11.
