The Fayette County Board of Education approved a $212.6 million budget for FY2019, by a 5-0 vote on June 25.

The General Fund allocates $142.6 million for instruction, $15 million for maintenance and operations, $14.2 million for administrative costs and $11.9 million for pupil services. The budget also includes an end-of-year fund balance of $21.6 million. Superintendent Joseph Barrow, Jr. said the system is adding “some desperately needed positions,” including additional teachers to maintain the county’s desired class-size ratio as well as more guidance counselors to address student mental health needs.

The county recently added several new course programs at the middle and high school levels that will expand career options related to the local film industry.
