The Fayette County Board of Commissioners has decided not to go forward with a proposed pay study for county employees.

The board voted 3-2 last Thursday against updating a 2007 study done by the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, which would have reviewed job classifications and determined if the current pay structure is still “market competitive” for recruiting and retaining employees.

The $26,250 survey would not have affected staffing levels or recommended across-the-board raises. County Administrator Steve Rapson said the county does not have the resources to do such a study internally. Commission Chairman Steve Brown said the commission may revisit the issue next year.
