Following public hearings and internal discussions, Fayette County Public Schools plans to pursue a new model for its education system. The Board of Education voted 5-0 Monday to choose the Investing in Educational Excellence model over a charter or status quo system, a decision the Georgia Department of Education has required of all school districts by June 30.

The IE2 model has flexibility, accountability and waivers in place regarding academic standards and individual school performance. A letter of intent to the state will be Fayette's first step in the implementation process, followed by future public discussion of the application's provisions.
