Charles Oddo, chairman of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners, denied Tuesday that the county is negotiating with the NAACP to settle a lawsuit regarding district voting.

Recent rumors about a settlement brought a large audience to the meeting, with residents speaking both for and against a settlement. County lawyers are due in federal court again next month over the issue of replacing at-large voting with district voting for commission and Board of Education elections.

Court-ordered district voting has been implemented in Fayette twice in the past year, and the high cost of the case has prompted some county leaders to advocate for settling.
