The Fayette County Board of Education voted 5-0 Tuesday to replace the gym floors at 10 elementary schools. After a group of building principals toured schools in Gwinnett County with new floors made by Sport Court, they recommended that Fayette choose a solid tile material that looks like wood to replace the open-mesh material now in use.
The current flooring is difficult to clean and has not worn well. Facilities Director Mike Satterfield called the new material “far superior to the floors we have at this time,” and noted its 20-year warranty and easier maintenance. The floors will cost $399,000, using SPLOST funds, and will be installed over the summer.
Braelinn and Peeples elementary schools recently installed new floors and will not be part of the project.
